I can’t believe I’m doing this again. Teaching another baby how to eat.
The first time around, I was unbelievably stressed. If you’re in that stage right now—overwhelmed, confused, worried—I see you. I am you.
There’s so much conflicting information out there. Do you do baby-led weaning? Purees? Instagram told me to baby-led wean. My pediatrician told me to start with purees. And my own psychosis told me I wasn’t capable of feeding a baby at all because I was so scared of choking.
So, I chose purees.
I made them daily for Benjamin. I sat with him at every meal. Purees eased my mind—and honestly, that’s all that matters. Pick what works for you. What makes you feel comfortable. That’s the real secret. At the end of the day, it’s not going to change how your child eats long term, or whether they’re picky or adventurous.
Spoiler alert: there will come a time when your toddler insists on buttered pasta, chicken fingers, and cheese—on repeat. Some days, they won’t eat three meals. They’ll just snack. That’s OK. It’s not about what they eat in a day—it’s about what they eat over a week.
